A Walk to Paradise Garden

I do love a photo that can never be taken again and this is a place in the New York Botanical Garden that no longer exists.

This was once a bridge over a small stream that began in the pond of the Alpine Rock Garden and flowed into a place that was once called Willow and Swale. The bridge and the stream below were located in the Native Plant Garden and separated the meadow from the forest.

Have I ever mentioned that one of my favorite words is ecotone? I’m sure that the transition to new Native Plant Garden will be even more exciting when it opens but I still remember when I didn’t have to even duck to cross that bridge and learn about the wild flowers of the northeastern forest. I’m counting the days now.
