"Little Aussie" 1999-2007

"Aussie" died during the night. She was an Inland bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps), a native of Australia. She hatched March 1, 1999. Previous owners, early in her life, fed her improper diet and she developed metabolic bone disease which left her with deformed feet and nose. After she was rescued, her diet was corrected and she did very well, though she never grew much and her deformities remained. Bearded dragons "live between 5 and 8 years if initially healthy and raised under good conditions." Aussie was 8 years old this year. It's a real tribute to her stamina that she lived so long and I'm happy the last 3 years with me were good for her. She'll be missed. In the photo which was taken in April of 2004, she is panting to help regulate her body temperature in the sun. She was only in the heat long enough for the picture. Photo by Frank
