Truman Tax Preparation Room 4 17 2012
On the last day at our Uptown free tax preparation site in Truman College, it is with mixed feelings our hard-working volunteers and site managers prepare the last taxes of the season. Truman is one of CEP’s larger sites with hundreds of volunteers passing through each year to help clients with tax returns. The volunteers cheerfully assist with EITC on both federal and state returns as well as provide other free services to our clients. More than 28,000 Illinois taxpayers filed returns through CEP’s program in the 2011 tax season, with more than $50 million in state and federal tax refunds returned to clients.
Since 1990 Center for Economic Progress (CEP) has helped hard-working, low-income families move from financial uncertainty to financial security. CEP offers free tax preparation at tax sites in Chicago, Springfield, and throughout Illinois. Tax season sites are open from late January until mid April. Other services at tax sites include: Financial Aid U (FAFSA); Checking and Savings Accounts; Prepaid Debit Card. Located at its Chicago Loop office is a year-round tax clinic providing free tax related financial services.
These services are provided with the essential assistance of donors and volunteers. Center for Economic Progress enjoys a reputation as a trusted service provider, a strong and valuable partner in the communities served, and a responsible steward of donors' investments. Charity Navigator has awarded Center for Economic Progress with its four-star (excellent) rating.
