where did you get all the pictures from?

I have visited east Germany many times, starting in 1984, so I have been able to take many photos.

Just out of curiosity, what took you to the GDR so often from 1984 onwards, if I may ask?

First time I was behind the Iron Curtain was in 1986, in Poland and Prague, and the difference in atmosphere between the two countries was striking. Still went to Budapest in '88 too, but the next time we were behind the "curtain," in Prague again in December 89, it was no longer made of metaphorical iron, and portraits of Vaclav Havel were everywhere ("Havel na Hrad!")

Fascination with the urban landscape - dereliction side by side with modernity, lots of public art, interesting signage. Since 1990 I have tried to photograph as much remaining material from the GDR before it disappears forever.
