Arctostaphylos - Manzanitas
This is the most fascinating group of native plants in california - in my opinion. There are many remnant 'island' populations of different species on isolated ridgetops from throughout california - remnant of an ancient time when there were enormous forests of manzanitas all across the west. I grow and sell many different kinds at my nursery too. I've included many wild ones, but also plenty of cultivars used in garden settings.

Here are around 1000 photos of manzanitas - all mixed up - to give you a feeling of how diverse, beautiful, and complex this group of California native plants are.

Enjoy!
