state theatre schenectady

    Newer Older

The old State Theatre in Schenectady, NY. I hear the actual theatre has been destroyed, but the lobby/facade remains.

I think we need to break in there and find out for ourselves. Oh and by the way... Olender across the street there is super groovy!

Don't break in, the building is not abandoned.

There were actually two theaters here, the Erie and the State, which was Proctor's before Proctor's built its grand new location up the Street. Both have been closed since the '50s, I think.

Go the Library of Congress photos page here:
      lcweb2.loc.gov/pp/pphome.html
and search "State Theater Schenectady" and you'll find interior photos.

Yeah, I saw those. I've been doing a lot of research on these theatres I have to photograph. Ha, and don't worry, he lives in LA, we won't be "breaking in." Plus, I know that you can just walk in. :]

I see a lot of comments from the urban explorers around here, so I took that too seriously. A friend has a business in there, so I didn't want you to mess up her office.

A model railroad custom model builder has made beautiful replicas of many of these buildings, including that awful steel facade on the Olender's (behind which sits the original location of the Carl Company):
