The sculpture 'Umbrellas' or 'Ομπρέλλες' (in Greek) can be found if you walk
by the port in Thessaloniki on the way to Macedonia Palace Hotel. In the area 'Nea Paralia'.
Created by G. Zogolopoulos, it is 13m high and was presented in 1993 for the
46th Biennale in Venice, to celebrate 100 years of Biennale.
In 1997 it was placed in Thessaloniki while the town was Cultural Capital of Europe.
Nowadays you can also find it in Brussels, outside the Council of Ministers of EU.
Made it in Explore #375 !!
I'm always so amazed about this picture. About the attention it attracts. Simply because I didn't do anything special for this picture. It was just a nice day and I pointed the camera at the Umbrellas. So it makes me thinking it was the sentiment that came with it. I went to Thessaloniki with the need to photograph this sculpture. I've been thinking about it for ages! So I think it WAS the sentiment that made this picture so loved. Thank you!
