A broken pocketwatch that somehow came into my possession and has remained there for years.

I put the watch on a flatbed scanner and "acquired" this image directly from real life. I wanted to try scanning an object and I figured this would be better than scanning my butt or my face, because I wouldn't have to clean the glass afterward--and perhaps it would be more unusual, as well. It came out ok.

Part of a set of scanned objects.

Excellent way to capture an image like this. It came out very nice.

how did you get the black background? did you leave the lid off and turn out the room light?

    quadrapop, thanks for your comments.

I just left the lid open. The room wasn't particularly dark, although there are no lights near the scanner. I did try to make sure there was nothing shiny or light colored above the glass that the scanner light could reflect off of back to the lens.
