Thorne Lock Lane South Yorkshire 01-73

This was the residence of the master of Thorne Workhouse, originally known as Thorne Union and later Thorne Institution. Said to hold 111 inmates, the average number in residence was 80. The grounds of the Workhouse extended towards the rear of this building. The workhouse itself was later converted to an underwear factory and the headquarters of the local Sea Cadets branch, whilst this building, already derelict in the photograph, was demolished.
