Gone Fission

Hubley Manufacturing Company began making cast-iron toys in 1892 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania (USA). After WWII, production turned to die-cast and plastic models, including numerous cowboy style shooters. Few toy guns capture the imagination like the "Atomic Disintegrator," fabricated by Hubley in 1954.

Looking like a weapon wrested from the drawings of famed science fiction illustrator Wally Wood, the toy epitomizes the space weapon of the 1950s. The vibrant handle grips, the ornate die-cast metal (almost two pounds worth), and the wonderful cap mechanism help the Disintegrator land near the top of almost every collector's wish list.

Since I'm such a science-fiction fan, this is one item I doubt I'll ever get rid of. So, if you see a grungy, bearded homeless man "zapping" people as they walk by his refrigerator box command ship, you'll know who it is.
