I saw Dinita walking through the centre of town, and was drawn by her coolness. She had a really stylish look, and I thought she'd be a cool addition to the project. I stopped her and asked her if I could take her picture, and she was fine about it. I was chatting to her and her friend about what they were up to today, when she informed me that her 'friend' was in fact her mum! Not missing a beat I turned to the mum and said- 'man I should have said sister, then I would really have been in your good books', getting a big smile from the mum!
I'm always a bit worried about approaching people when they are with their parents- I guess just worried that the hugely protective parenting instinct will kick in, or that the model wont be able to relax into the shoot, but this was a clear lesson that this isn't necessarily the case.
Dinita and her mum told me that she was currently a student, and that she wanted to go on and study photography, with the aim of becoming a professional photographer. It was really cool to hear this, and I chatted a little about Flickr, the 100 strangers group and some local photographic galleries. I really hope she checks the site, and gets involved, as it has been such a boost to my photography, and getting feedback is totally priceless!
Thanks so much for being part of my project Dinita, and I hope you like your pictures.
