Wehrmann Uetz / "Stoßtruppen" from Landsturm Infanterie Regiment Nr. 13, May 1917
Letter on reverse (see below) dated 1.5.1917 with admin stamp from Württemberg Landst.-Inf.-Regt. Nr. 13 (w. XIII 25) and postage cancelled on 2.5.17.
Not a whole lot written about these fellows, so I can't elucidate further on their activities or combat record, but needless to say, they weren't languishing about behind the lines guarding prisoners or infrastructure.
These Landsturmmänner are equipped as frontline fighters, stahlhelme, festooned with hand-grenades, Gew 98 rifles fitted with an extended 20 round magazine (This innovation was unsuccessful for a multitude of reasons, including the significant amount of force required to close the bolt over a fully loaded magazine) and gas-masks.
A remarkable photograph.
