"Dear friend I again take this opportunity of thanking you for the nice eggs you so kindly give to my mother to send to me. You have no idea how much these are relished especially when in the trenches. I always have a good appetite when there and the eggs come in handy there. I am still in good health and our battalion go into the trenches tonight. We are getting it good and hard as far as working parties are concerned but the line is pretty quiet. We expect something lively soon but we should worry. I hope Mrs Forrest, the family and yourself are in good health, give them my best respects. The weather is dandy out here at present. Fine for summer holidays. Cpl Doig".
