A day at the beach
NCOs and Mannschaften from an unidentified regiment relax on the sand in a no doubt welcome respite from the trenches.
A couple of interesting items of note are:
Owner / unit identification details can be seen uniformly stenciled on the inside collars of the men's fatigues.
Two kinds of bayonets are visible in the foreground, the central one being a 98/05 "butcher" bayonet and the two smaller types being M1914 sawbacks (issued to NCOs).
The mandolin is an unfamiliar type. It has however been adorned with bayonet troddels.
