Pictured-wing Fly (#1)
I'm super excited that Laowa have provided me with a pre-release version of their newly announced 100mm F/2.8 2X macro lens in Pentax K-Mount, for me to test out!
This painted wing fly (Delphinia picta)) was sunning itself on a piece of wood, and was one of the last insects I saw this season. I hadn't seen one of these flies in a few years! This fellow was quite active and thus difficult to shoot... The red background is fortuitous and is the house's brick wall, BTW.
Pentax K-3 with Laowa 100mm F/2.8 Macro 2X and off-camera diffused Godox AD180 flash. Shot at 2:1, plus a moderate crop to 16:10 aspect ratio. Two-frame handheld focus stack. Frame is about 10mm wide here.
