Abigail #283

Last weekend I was out with my friend Paul who is not a 100 stranger shooter but does sometimes get involved in street portraits. I was using his 5DMkIII as I was without my camera body and we had a Elinchrome Ranger Quadra light.

In Nottingham, where I live, I spotted this great set of shutters and decided to setup the light in to the side spilling out. In the middle of setting up I went out to the middle of the road to check exposure when I spotted this wonderful green skirt and striking stranger walking towards/in front of my camera lens - I started shouting from the middle of the road to my friend Paul asking him to stop her for me and I went to ask her is she would get involved in the portrait (I think I was probably frantically shouting "the green skirt, stop her, stop her!" at the top of my voice - PAul who is not as extrovert as I in street portraits didn't have time to think but jumped out the doorway in front of her and so we got to work getting the lighting right and taking my shots).

I will try to upload a shot with the light visible to the comments for anyone interested in this approach as well.

Abigail was a pleasure to photograph, she was very chilled and natural, took direction really well in terms of pose and which side to hold the handbag and was just so pleasant! She has recently gone back to university to study dance, which sounds brilliant.

As always I handed out a moo card and she went on her way, just after that a security guard turned up and told me I really needed to leave the doorway as it is part of a shopping arcade - he was very nice about it so I headed off with the gear to find some lunch!
