M31 Andromeda repro

Newer Older

This was inevitable - got to leave it alone now.

Little less brutal, and easier on the blue. Also, I used lens correction in the previous version to compensate for the lack of flattener. That distorts the entire image though, and made the galaxy a little wide of girth! Better in this version I think (if you don't look at the corners) :)

SW ED80/EQ5, cropped
Nikon D70 modded, Baader Neodymium filter
18 x 4 mins iso 1600
30 x 6 mins iso 1250
22 x 10 mins iso 800
Guiding: Quickcam Pro4000/9x50 finderscope, PHD
Stacked in DSS and processed in CS5

Reprocessed again here :)

Much nicer Doug. Excellent image, I tried the lens correction before adding a field flattener a while ago...you're right..doesn't work well with astro photos. Thanks for posting..great job (as usual).

Thanks guys for all you kind comments. Still not happy with this but I can only work within the limitations of the camera, and believe me, the D70 has limitations! :)

Love it. And you've a while to wait before you get your grubby mitts on the D300. Unless my numbers come in of course.

Too much contrast mate! Needs more time - 8 hours in my light polluted skies isn't enough!

Yeah, fair enough ... can never have enough time when fighting LP. :)

Doug, I apologize somehow I missed this. Awesome M31, great reprocess! You would think for such a large bright target M31 would be easy to image. Hard to get the dust lanes and finer details without blowing out the core. I think you nailed it! Excellent work
