A 'Marmite' image - love it or hate it.
An image inspired by Cole Thompson. A brilliant photographer who, ironically, doesn't look at the work of any other photographers to prevent himself trying to emulate them. This was after a gallery director told him he could see the work of Ansel Adams in his photographs, which would make most of us feel chuffed, but then followed this up by saying to him that Ansel Adams has already 'done' Ansel Adams and no-one can do it better. Ever-since, Cole has avoided all photographic images as much as possible. A look at his portfolio shows this hasn't harmed him and he has done some sublime work.
I, however, would hate to deprive myself of the oxygen of inspiration. I don't want to copy or plagiarise -rather to be moved to experiment and consider fresh approaches. I want to learn new techniques and skills as part of my efforts to develop my own unique style.
This shot was taken at Roker near Sunderland in full sun in the middle of the day, handheld, with my G9.
