Me and my shadow

I've been trying to get some decent shots of a belted kingfisher for the past two or three years but I never get close enough. I found this one on a river recently but he stayed on the other side and there was no way to get any closer. So these shots are distant and cropped -- and my quest for excellent shots continues. However, I had to laugh when the setting sun painted a large shadow of the bird on the rocks for me, just as he was climbing out of the water with his latest catch. Something is better than nothing. :-)
The light was good enough that I was able to get the second shot of the bird as he was sitting on a rock in the water just after catching a fish. I wish he'd fish on the side of the river I can get to -- but he'd probably just fly away anytime I got close. These kingfishers have to be among the most skittish and elusive birds around.
