Camphor and Oak Spindle, top view
After hearing me talk about what I was looking for in my first "real" spindle, my husband made this for me (in a day - shocking). The whorl is just over 2", hand-turned out of mystery wood someone told him was camphor (it's not), rim-weighted and treated with a light oil finish. The shaft is an oak dowel, and she's finished with a standard little cup hook. The whole spindle weighs .9 ounces, and she spins quite nicely - the fiber here is a Corriedale/Alpaca blend from Etsy which I bought as practice fiber to get started spinning.
