Paul M. Weyrich, aka Paul Weyrich, co-founded the Heritage Foundation and the Free Congress Foundation. He also founded the American Legislative Exchange Council. He famously said, ""I don't want everybody to vote. Elections are not won by a majority of the people. They never have been from the beginning of our country and they are not now. As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down."
ALEC recently claimed to be "disbanding the task force" advancing controversial Voter ID and “Stand Your Ground” laws. This is a hollow gesture after decades of seeding the states with reams of regressive legislation and years of how to educational seminars. They have been aggressively laying land mines of anti-democratic legislative strategy designed to undermine the American Dream. The corporations and foundations like Coca-Cola, Wendy's, Kraft, Intuit, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and others withdrew their support for ALEC, but they really need to support efforts to undo the damage they have facilitated.
