It has been really dismal here in terms of light - very gray and flat. But at least it is warm by our standards ( -1 C) at this time of year. I had a nice time shooting at the more common birds attracted by the feeders at Hawrelak Park and the Whitemud trails. These are portrait shots because a whole body shot would have to include a feeder of some sort but they allowed a close approach. I lucked out with the Black-backed Woodpecker for the third time this week. It wasn't at a feeder, but right at the trail head at Fox Farm. That info is for the local bird shooters. Go get it. We may not see one again for awhile. The flying Green-winged Teal was taken at Goldbar Park today. Not a great shot, but very interesting to see one here in the dead of winter.
Check out the great Eagle shots at Goldbar taken today by Glenn Parker. The Snowy owl at Beaumont isn't half bad either. For the best flight shots of a Northern Goshawk I have ever seen, look at the shots taken by Raymond Lee at Goldbar Park.
