26.8.12 Strakonice Dudy (Bagpipes) Festival
This remarkable event takes place every two years and this is the 20th time. Groups only have to have one bagpipe, and they don't even have to have bags, so it's an astonishing variety of folk and traditional music.

The Czechs give the visiting groups a great reception, especially if they play anything Czech!

I only got to the Sunday because off the Pisek Festival, but was treated to a brilliant show by Czech groups in the Dum Kultury Theatre, a spectacular parade through the streets, and the final concert in th Summer Cinema. Of all the groups, I thought the French cornemuses made the most beautiful sound, even if their dance element was minimal.

And where but Strakonice would passengers waiting for a late train be given a lecture recital on the bagpipes?!
