Kingston Lacy's beech avenue
This is just a tiny part of the two mile long avenue of beeches. I can't remember which member of the Bankes family planted them for his mother, or what year they were planted ( I shall return with more info ;) but there were 365 on each side of the road, one for each day of the year. Sadly they have started to die, but the Natinal Trust, who now own the estate, have planted new trees just outside the old ones.
I've wanted to take pics of the wonderful canopy for long enough and finally got the chance this week. It took two trips, and a lot of patience to get the shots without any traffic. Needless to say I felt a right nana standing at the side of the road, twiddling me thumbs ;o) The second lot of shots were better focused than the first, but the trees had lost a lot of leaves in the two days between. Ah well .... maybe next year :o)
