Hawklaw CSOS Wireless Intercept Station.
Hawklaw CSOS Wireless Intercept Station.

There seems little change since when visited in 2004, it was up for sale then but now just looks unused apart from a caravan and car.

It appears that some work is going on at the site but it is unclear what is being done there

Hawklaw CSOS Wireless Intercept Station.

Photographed in 2004 when the site was for sale and we were allowed access by the caretaker.

Initially a GPO site.

A website on the history of Kemback says that the GPO Wireless Receiving Station was set up at Kemback (opposite the entrance to the cemetery) in 1927 as the British end of a Transatlantic telephone link. It was later moved to Cairngreen and then to a purpose built building at Hawklaw.

Then Foreign Office during WWII and CSOS later.

Magask was a RN site and must have become CSOS also - Canmore ID 331197
