Rainbows in the Sand

Rainbow Flip Flops in the Sand on Saturday in San Francisco!

It was an incredibly nice day on Saturday... so going to the beach wasn't all too terrible haha. It was actually perfect, showed up with my Nikon, shorts, tshirt and I walked towards the water to look for things to photograph. I tried a few sea shells, a dead crab, my own feet... but nothing came out. Sand is actually really difficult to photograph.. I went to the beach thinking "how hard can it be?" Apparently pretty tricky...

Anyway I sat down on the sand thinking about what to photograph and looked at my flip flops and well... here we are. I looked kinda stupid though, at the beach, everyone's having a great time playing in the water, flying kites, sun tanning... and here I am photographing my flip flops.

Rainbow flip flops are awesome... get a pair!

Btw... to all the Mom's out there, hope you had a great mother's day!

This is for the group Macro Mondays. This is a fun little group where every Monday, a macro photograph is submitted for the week's theme. This week's theme was "Sand".

    Taken with a Nikon D50 w/ a 60mm f/2.8 Micro Nikkor Lens...

the perfect example of a macro! the angle of the shot means that despite the focal blurring on the right (intended, im assuming) means that the image as a whole is your subject, even though the viewer focus is on the left sandal. the detail is amazing and each grain of sand stands out well, a factor i think you accentuated through the darker color filter, something that left the strong colors of the sandals to shine through whilst still contrasting the grains of sand against one another, good job!

A funny and interesting idea - when I saw the thumbnail I thought: as time goes by - old things an the beach - but now - and with the explanation - I see: the flipflops still work - anyway: nice shot, interesting DOF (the focus for me a little bit TOO much out of centre) - I would like to have seen it larger - my suspicion is, it's not quite sharp and you sharpened it a little bit too much...

I really like the detail in the sand and on the flip flop in the foreground. The curving parts of the flip flop lead my eyes towards the back ground with the other flip flop buried under the sand, the DoF really helps here as the lack of sharpness seems to emphasise the layer of sand over it and give perspective to the detail in the foreground.

All in all, lovely picture and hope you had a good day at the beach.

I'm on the "too sharp" end here, but I can see the subjectivness of that. I think it adds just a bit too much contrast creating an unsettling noise pattern and a bit of moiré on the label.

Looking at it kind of makes me appreciate the pearly white beaches we have around here ;)

Nice colours otherwise, the sandy (heh) colour of the thongs complement the black and white sand. So all in all I guess this is a winner. Certainly not the worst I've seen today :D

hehehe... when I opened the group "Life thru a Lenz" it's your picture I've noticed at the first sight. It's an original idea on an old motif.
Maybe because of the sun, it's a bit too clear, too lighty. But the macro was a really good idea.
Ok, 13.20, my break is almost finished, need to back to work... your picture will be the sun of my afternoon :)
