It was all kinds of surreal, building the final moments of my best friend from Middle School. I still don't know all the details after all these years. It was just too painful to ask.
Building this in particular, really put me on edge for a few days. The entire project was both incredibly easy, and astonishingly difficult.
It was easy to find the motivation, and to build to the emotion of each scene. It was after each build that I felt completely wrung out.
I tried a few tricks to make the backdrop look more like sky, but after comparison, I decided I liked the cloistered look of having the backdrop right against the MOC. It somehow conveys the constriction of perceptions that most individuals go through when they become suicidal. At least I feel that it does.
Also, I decided to leave bare the rows and rows of studs, and use a camera angle that actually maximized the appearance of the studs. Again, it just felt right to really make things look genuine at this moment. A small, bumpy, plastic world.
If you haven't seen the comic itself, it starts here.
