IBA 87 - rossi 1
Rossi's contribution to the neighborhood is... a little hard to take. It does the urbanistic stuff fine - holds the edge, matches the cornice height, provides a loggia at the base, etc. etc....but the language is just so overblown and cheesy - I mean, it looks like a parody of Michael Graves! The oversized four-square windows, the funky gables sitting on the roof like little hats, and the enormous cartoon of a column that's used to emphasize the corner - - gimme a break, Aldo! We'll see much more exciting earlier work by Mr. Rossi later in the trip, so let's just forget we ever saw this.
