Had a great chat with this officer on Market St. He let me check the mobile command unit then we talked about iPhone apps for police officers. "Most of the officers have iPhones now, but they aren't required by the city. In fact, there's so much bureaucracy in place that we couldn't use an SFPD app even if there was one. We required to use radio when ever calling in a possible suspect."
He later told me that the recent wave of Apple related thefts was becoming so common that the thieves had started calling it "Apple Picking". "Guys BART in from Hayward or Richmond or wherever whenever they need some quick cash. 'Hey man, wanna go Apple Picking?' 'Sure.'."
