A short story...
Minutes before this shot, I was shooting a nearby brook when it occurred to me how remarkably untouched this vast forest was. So much so that there must be hundreds of deer everywhere...even bears.
After driving less than a quarter mile from this spot, I got off my car again to set up my tripod for another shoot of this narrow winding road and the arching foliage. But before I could even mount my camera onto my tripod, a couple of oncoming SUVs disrupted me and forced me to go back in my car to drive it out of their way. As I was trying to get back to what I was doing shortly after the SUVs disappeared, a four hundred pound black bear lumbered out of the woods some twenty yards up ahead and crossed the road to the hillside to my right. Intent on gettng my shot, I shrugged off what I had just seen pretending it never happened. Ten seconds later, an overwhelming fear of a possible ambush by that black bear took over me. Like in some horror flick, I packed up, scurried back inside my car and rolled shut the open sun roof and window...Funny how the fear of the unknown grabbed a hold of me to ruin a good photo op.
