iPad Portrait of Bill Atkinson at Work on his iPad App Photocard Today
Painted from life in his office.
Bill was member of the original Mac team at Apple, and he designed much of the initial Mac UI & wrote QuickDraw, MacPaint & HyperCard.
Hypercard was an early influence on the creation of the Web by Sir Tim Berners-Lee and the first graphical browser, Netscape, by Marc Andreesen.
I first became award of Bill's work through his application, MacPaint, in January 1984 when the Mac was first released in NYC. These photos were taken by my friend, photographer Pamela Duffy:
I was also inspired by Bill's Hypercard, released in August 1987. I studied Danny Goodman's books and made many Hypercard stacks.
I met Bill in person for the first time at the Future/Canvas 2 iPad painting exhibition earlier this month in San Francisco.
Thank you, Bill. It was inspiring to watch you work.
