Greenwood Highlights Computer Science Education
Members of the computer-coding club at Greenwood Elementary School demonstrated the value of computer science in Iowa schools during a press conference today with Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds. Reynolds, who was joined by Iowa Department of Education Director Ryan Wise and Greenwood principal Eric Huinker, spoke about legislation recently signed into law that would encourage additional computer science education by providing for education standards, instructor endorsements and authorizations, a computer science professional development incentive fund, and a computer science education work group. The stars of the press conference, however, were members of Greenwood’s coding club, a group of more than 75 students who meet after school to work on technology projects. They shared with the Lt. Governor examples of their work, which ranged from a robotic arm to a gummy worm piano keyboard.
