Superb Lyrebird Female
A female superb lyrebird (Menura novaehollandiae).
Bobbin Head, Mt Ku-Ring-Gai National Park, north of Sydney.
I was just finishing a short bushwalk, and lamenting the fact that we hadn't seen any interesting wildlife at all. We were no more than 50 metres from the car park where we'd left our car, and there was a scrabbling noise in the undergrowth right next to the track. Fortunately I had my longest lens on, and quickly switched the camera to ISO6400 to pierce the forest floor gloom. I reeled off 5 shots before the bird vanished. This is the best one.
Even at ISO6400 it was 1/25 of a second. Thank goodness for image stabilisation!
