339/365 - Hot Buttered Rum
While it was actually unseasonably warm today here in Massachusetts, winter is certainly setting in, which turns my mind towards warming drinks for Tipsy Tuesday today. Mixed up a hot buttered rum, and got the fireplace going. A seat by the fire is a great place to enjoy a warm drink and a book (haven't actually started this particular book yet, but it's easily the most attractive book I've picked up in the recent past. McSweeney's does nice work, and I've enjoyed Dave Eggers work before, but the latest Jim Butcher and the latest Michael Chabon won the top of the reading list--heck, I interrupt other reading for either of them.)
If you want to mix yourself one, put 3 tsp. of Demerara sugar into a mug, add 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. each of ground cloves and ground cinnamon, a tablespoon of soft butter, 2 1/2 oz. of rum, and 2 oz. of boiling water, and stir until the butter is melted and the sugar dissolves. Garnish with a cinnamon stick (and, if you like, a strip of orange zest, which I was out of.) Yes, I could have skipped the spoon and just stirred with the cinnamon stick.
Technique-wise, I set up the scene, worked out my exposure for the fire, and then added in the strobes.
Happy Tipsy Tuesday!
