170/365 - Pier One Peacock
Experimenting tonight. Still trying to decide if I like this one or not, but it is pretty much exactly what I set out to shoot.
This is a little metal enameled peacock, around 3 1/2" or 4" high, set with glass "gems," from Pier One Imports. Thing Two spotted this months ago, first in a sales flyer when reading the Sunday supplements, then again on a visit to the store. She really liked it, and she's saved up since to buy it for herself, which she did this past weekend.
I thought if I could light it the right way, and held the DoF shallow, I could get the head in focus and get the gems to sparkle in the bokeh. Like I said, I got pretty much exactly what I had envisioned.
Nikon D7000 w/Nikkor 50mm ƒ/1.8 prime, 12mm macro tube, 1/250s @ ƒ/2.4, ISO100. One SB-700 camera left at 24mm zoom, 1/100 power; second SB-700 camera right, 24mm zoom, 1/80 power, blocked a bit by a card to leave the head of the statuette in a bit of shadow. Cropped very slightly and vibrance boosted a bit in Aperture.
