165/365 - Playing with Matches
(OK, kids, don’t try this at home…)
I originally wanted to try to capture a match in the process of being struck, but even with my wife helping out, I wasn't able to time things well enough to get quite the shot I had imagined, and even the shots that were close weren't really all that interesting.
It struck me that if I set up a series of matches, I stood a chance of catching one mid-ignition. So, I arranged some matches on a piece of masking tape, folded over to hold them steady, clamped that so that it stood up, set up with a macro tube on the lens, lit the match on the end, and took some continuous shots to see if I could get anything that worked. This was the best of four attempts.
