094/365 - Selfie

More experimentation with the new flash equipment tonight, this time a self-portrait, trying to go for more traditional portrait lighting. Of course, I made things a bit more complicated by wearing a hat with a brim. I don't really have a backdrop set up, so what I used here was a olive green fleece blanket draped over some props. Hardest part was getting the focus good enough; other than the very front of the hat brim I think focus is where I wanted it.

Nikon D7000 with Nikkor 50mm ƒ/1.8 lens, 1/60s @ ƒ/4, ISO100. Shooting with the flashes in iTTL mode. One SB-700 shooting through an umbrella, camera left and above my head, group A at +1.0ev, second SB-700 shooting across the backdrop, group B at -0.3ev. Silver reflecting dish to camera right and below, to cut the shadows under the hat and on the "back" side of my face a bit. Desaturated the image a bit in Aperture, along with some cropping and a slight amount of shadow fill.

Not too bad, considering I don't have the most photogenic mug. I think I'm going to leave things set up tonight and try a few more quick ones with Things One and Two in the morning before I ship them off to school.
