5-Spot Burnet,zygaena trifolii,taken in the top meadow at Styal Country Park.These moths are less common than the 6 Spot Burnet in the north of England but Styal is a stronghold for them.There were large numbers present today.They are found in all kinds of grassy places inc moorland . FP:Birds-foot trefoil.

 

They are day flying and are protected by a distasteful poison . They pupate in papery cocoons.There are 10 British species
