Neon Genesis Evangelion +++ 1:8 Misato Katsuragi "in casual outfit"
Another original Gainax kit I was able to hunt down on a local comic fair - the kit was rather cheap since the figure itself is not very attractive.
I actually built it at and during the German AniMagic convention in 2004 in Koblenz, at the model kit workshop booth in the course of a weekend as a kind of live demo for visitors.
Nothing much to say. Being an original and high quality kit, the pieces fitted very well and had superb surfaces, so that little sanding and putty work was needed. Only added details are the hair strings on Misato' temples these were scratched with simple, long and thin strips of paper which were given depth and volume with several coats of white glue. Very effective!
On the paint side, the denim mini skirt was pretty tough, because the "stone-washed" effect in small scale is not easy to achieve. But with careful and sparse dry painting in grey, white and light blue on a medium blue base, the result is very convincing. And it matches well with the light yellow/cream top.
In the end, a nice kit, and pleasantly unspectacular. Nevertheless, I like this Misato rendition a lot because this figure still radiates a very good "charisma", despite the figure's overall simplicity.
