Victorian Photo Album Project
Titled "A good joke"
Rose Buchey April 5th 1899.
Rose B appears throughout the album, and occasionally with her sister Lily. She seems too have been a favourite of the photographer as she appears with a man entitled "Self and Rose B" in a slightly risque pose. She also appears as Cinderella in many of the photos, but the one above is my favourite as the other shots of her are very posed. The above image was taken whilst out with her sister and a friend Mary Hester, they all took turns in holding up their dogs, although she seems to have been lumbered with holding on to another as well, hence the title "A Good Joke" maybe ?. The photo had quite a few scratches and marks on it which i removed and generally gave it a tidy up without changing too much from the original image. The original sepia tone was very discoloured in places so i converted it to mono tone then re toned it with sepia matching it as closely as possible to the original. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out as its a great photo, sometimes its so worth making that little bit of effort. I'm hoping that the images will go on show in the Oxford Museum at some point,as far a i know there has already been one or two selected for the new displays with some digital frames.
