BSA Victor 441 Motorcycle

Marina del Rey (Los Angeles), Los Angeles County, California

Just after I dropped some film off to be developed and scanned in Marina del Rey I encountered this rat BSA Victor 441 and I had to stop and take a picture of if since I was completely amazed to find one that was still running.

I almost bought one of these when I was 20.   I thought it would be great to have a BSA, until I rode it.   I almost dumped it because I could not get used to the right foot shift and left foot rear brake.   The vibration from the non-counterweighted single piston engine was incredible.   The front wheel bounced while sitting at a red light.

The BSA Victor 441 was the poster child for why the British motorcycle industry died in the early 1970s.   Besides having unreliable bearings, ridiculous amounts of vibration, and constantly leaking oil, it was also blessed with Lucas electrics.
