Week 1/52: Me
After a few failed attempts at shooting a portrait of my sister for the first week of my 52 week challenge, I decided to take a photo of myself . I have not done a self portrait in a long time and this one felt challenging.
I used a 50mm lens at f/1.8 to get that razor thin depth of field. It took a while, but I finally got it focused on my eyes. The composition was extremely hard to nail because I was only a couple of feet from the camera. I also used two flashes to light the photo. I had a Canon 580ex II with a shoot-though umbrella to the right of the camera, which was triggered using the Yongnuo YN-622 wireless flash triggers. I had it set to TTL mode, and had flash compensation at +1 to compensate for the light "lost" with the umbrella. I had a Yongnuo YN560 that was triggered using the optical slave. It was positioned camera right, behind me, to get that little beam of light that you see above my left eye. Again, the composition is not too great, but I am still happy with how this turned out.
