Fan Rock Double Head Yeppoon
Fan Rock’s spectacular hexagonal columns tell us how the thick lava cooled here. As the lava slowly cooled from the outside, it solidified, shrunk and cracked. Surface cracks grew deeper as the rock below cooled, forming prominent columns fanning out from the centre of the volcano. Think of deep cracks forming in the soil as mud dries out.
