Bamboo Graffiti 2, Beihai Park

    A fascinating find in Beihai Park, Beijing. People had carved their names and other graffiti into bamboo stalks. It was surprising to me because I tend to think of bamboo as an impermanent medium, but clearly this stand had been here for many years. I think the resulting characters with their organic black outlines are quite beautiful.

      :) Yes, I think the fact that it grows more and more abstract over time is part of what makes it unique.
