Steve Ingram and Kevin Plank with Testudo

The University of Maryland football team has a personal connection to the development of athletic performance gear. In 1996, former UMD football player Kevin Plank developed a moisture-wicking synthetic shirt and tested his prototype on several Maryland teammates. Plank's self-made business turned into the multi-billion-dollar company Under Armour.

Here, Kevin Plank (#37) and teammate Steve Ingram touch Testudo's nose for luck during a football game in 1992.
