2009-05-17 UIUC Graduation Weekend 4 (Small)
Panorama of Main Quad (looking south to the Helene Foellinger Auditorium) - University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign - 17 May 2009
This [and the preceding] image is [each] comprised of 10 individual frames shot on a Gitzo GT3530 tripod. A Really Right Stuff BH-55 LR ball head, PCL-1 panning clamp and 192-PPP nodal slide assembly were used to establish a level plane and eliminate parallax. White balance was set for 'Sunny', and a manual exposure and aperture was selected. The camera was mounted in portrait orientation and shots were taken every 20 degrees. Between this and the preceding image, 18 frames were taken to capture a 360 degree panorama.
The RAW images were batch post-processed in Nikon Capture NX 2 and converted to TIFF files. 10 of the 18 files were selected and imported into PTGui Pro 8.1.5 (a panorama stitching application). A Vedutismo projection was selected, and the files processed and saved as a single 300dpi PSD file. The resultant file was imported into Photoshop CS4, the image cropped to 10" high x 36" wide (10,800 x 3,000), the sky cleaned of sensor spots, and the resultant image saved as a JPEG file. Due to the large file size, the image was resized to 5" high x 18" wide (5,400 x 1,500) and saved as a 2nd file for uploading to flickr.
