Naples is the capital of Campania and the third-largest municipality in Italy, after Rome and Milan. As of 2012, around 960,000 people live within the city's administrative limits. The Naples urban area, covering 1,023 km2, has a population of between 3 million and 3.7 million, and is the 8th-most populous urban area in the European Union.
