#93 Chuckwagon Cookoff
Pinedale, AZ 8/4-5/17

A Chuckwagon Cookoff? Who would have thought? These are groups of 're-enactors' with reasonably authentic chuckwagons who engage in cooking contests. They must be prepared to feed 50-75 people. Preparation starts the night before and then continues at dawn the next day. My friend Geoff's team, the M Bar Lazy B, offered a typical menu: meat, potatoes, beans, cornbread, and rasberry cobbler. A requirement is that everything be cooked in Dutch ovens. The creation and management of the coals is a tricky job. The ovens have different contents which require different cooking times and temperatures.
Many of the ovens have an upper container for coals so the heat will also come from the top. This event took place in Pinedale, AZ, everything very green. We were interrupted by a brief shower but otherwise the weather cooperated. My pictures concentrate on Geoff's people but there are random pictures of other teams and general scenes. This was a charity event for the local fire department.
