    Built in 1936, this art deco style town hall is built in mulberry stockbrick, with a 4-pillared Portland stone entrance

      Splendid, isn't it? (Bizarre location on the very edge of both the pre-1965 and post-1965 borough notwithstanding.)

      I'm wondering now if you got to see Barking Town Hall too - Bryan Eno once, most surprisingly, described it as his favourite building in the world. (It's elegant and splendid, but not world-class). Unfortunately the very latest round of misguided public-sector redevelopment in Barking has crammed all manner of hideous and brightly-coloured bulidings right up against it, destroying the open space in front of it that the last round of misguided public-sector redevelopment (1970s) had given it, and which was well warranted.

      I guess all will be revealed soon....
