The tapers' section

    Newer Older

October 27, 1984 was the first day tapers were officially allowed to bring their gear in and record Grateful Dead shows, in a special section set aside just for them.

Who are these people? The only name I know for sure is Ross Lipton, second from the left in the second row, turned to the left and looking at the camera.

(August 2014: Farrell Timlake identified himself as the guy in the Hawaiian shirt, third from the left in front.)

I thought that 5th person from the left, first row, looked like Rudy C! Don't know for sure, but the person behind Ross could be me- not a taper, just the girlfriend of one.

I am the guy in the Hawaiian print shirt - looks like I am putting the finishing touches on a fat joint or maybe doing my nails... Man, those were fantastic shows for taping. Great sets, awesome room, great mic position. I remember I was downline on a set of Rode's that were powered from an extension cord running up to a plug in at the rear of the venue. Sound quality was epic and the band was inspired each of the days.
